Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Advisor

Summary

We’re looking for an experienced Environmental, Health and Safety Advisor to join our team on a major nuclear construction project in the UK. This role is perfect for someone with a strong understanding of environmental regulations and safety compliance, particularly within highly regulated sectors. It’s a great opportunity to play a key part in ensuring robust EHS practices on a nuclear-licensed site.

Responsibilities

• Implement and maintain environmental policies aligned with nuclear site licence conditions and legal requirements.
• Direct responsible mechanical and piping subcontract partners on environmental compliance.
• Lead environmental impact assessments and introduce initiatives to minimise environmental risks during construction activities.
• Monitor compliance with site EHS regulations, conducting inspections and audits.
• Provide expert advice and practical guidance on environmental controls and health and safety protocols.
• Investigate incidents and near-misses, ensuring root cause analysis and appropriate corrective actions.
• Deliver toolbox talks and training sessions focused on environmental awareness and safe working practices.
• Maintain accurate EHS documentation, including risk assessments, method statements and environmental permits.
• Liaise with stakeholders, regulators, and contractors to ensure clear communication of EHS standards.

 

Must-have Requirements

• Proven experience in an EHS role within construction or a highly regulated industry.
• Strong knowledge of UK environmental legislation and health and safety regulations.
• Experience in delivering EHS audits, investigations, and compliance reporting.
• Excellent communication and influencing skills with a proactive approach to problem solving.
• NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate (or equivalent).
• Ability to work on-site within a nuclear-licensed environment and adhere to strict security protocols.

 

Nice-to-have Skills

• IEMA Environmental Management qualification or equivalent.
• Experience on nuclear or large-scale infrastructure projects.
• Familiarity with mechanical piping installation processes.
• Additional EHS accreditations or advanced environmental monitoring experience.
